Could you tell us about yourself and your professional background?

In school, maths and physics were my favorite subjects. So, with no surprise, my first master’s degree was in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science. In 2008, I graduated from Lomonosov Moscow State University. My studies gave me a solid theoretical base, but I wanted to apply my knowledge in Finance and I started working in one of the largest Russian banks in the M&A department. I was in charge of building financial models and making business valuation, but I needed a deeper knowledge in economics. That’s why I followed a second master’s degree in Accounting and Financial analysis.

Some years later, I decided to take my career global. It was a horizontal shift within the same bank. That’s when my passion for Trade Finance started, with a wonderful mixture of international business and finance. In 7 years, I reached the position of Head of International documentary operations division where I oversaw the middle processing of the bank’s trade finance deals.

What triggered your need to train in data management?

I knew from my previous work experiences how strong analytical skills and the ability to deal with big amount of data can distinguish you from others, and not only in finance and banking. That’s why I decided to combine all my previous experiences with an up-to-date knowledge in data management to successfully start my career in Europe.

Why did you choose EDHEC?

It met my 3 main requirements: educational standards, a large alumni network, and the possibility to pursue an online program with an up-to-date and practical curriculum.

I knew that in the future, I would possibly have to relocate to another country and I didn’t want to be tied to one place. And, as a mother of 2, I wanted to be quite flexible with my study hours, and study anytime from anywhere.

How do you see data transforming the financial sector?

It has always been essential to be data-literate in finance. Of course, in the past years, this trend has accelerated because of the amount of data generated and technical progress. For example, the Blockchain came to the Trade Finance sector (and not only there). The ones who were on the frontline and were able to implement it first are on top now.

What are some of the main highlights of the program?

The Deep learning in Python course was great. It’s so powerful and has so many applications, in every field. In finance, it can help process feedback from clients for example.

The coaching sessions are very valuable. The coach helps to see myself from another point of view and improve my performance. It helps people change for the better.

Can you share any piece of advice for our future students?

Stay in touch with other students from the cohort.  It really helps when you’re studying online, to not feel alone.

If you already have some basic knowledge in linear algebra, statistics, or programming, it will be a big support for the Online MSc in Data Management & Business Analytics.

Finally, it’s all about time management. You should set a schedule and follow it closely !
