“I’m Simon, I’m 26 years old, and I’m from Frankfurt in Germany. I work as a strategy consultant at one of the leading European strategy consulting firms, focused on the financial services sector. I hold a Master’s in Law, and I wanted to further dive into strategic topics, aiming at widening my educational horizon at an international renowned university and business school like EDHEC.”
Why did you choose this programme?
“I chose the International Business Management program at EDHEC, which is very convenient whilst working full-time and suits well with my schedule and my interests. This business management programme, with courses like strategy and strategic foresight, is something very special. What also puts EDHEC ahead from other schools, in my feeling, is the consulting project pursued at the end of your Master’s, together with an institution. For me, it’s a big European asset manager that I do this project with. So you really work on a strategic solution together with a professor, together with somebody from your cohort, and also together with the firm. This combination really helps you thrive in a professional environment, beyond just attending normal university courses.”
How do you apply your new skills in your job?
“Besides specific skills, I rather think that overarching qualities are such that I find it partial to succeeding in such a fast-paced environment. EDHEC helps me practice these in various ways and provides a basis, for example, we have a lot of groupworks. The program itself also requires a student to have a certain level of endurance and thrive in a multicultural workplace and environment. It involves connecting with each other and overcoming personal barriers and boundaries, stepping out of your comfort zone. I think these are the skills and overarching qualities necessary in consulting life, and EDHEC helps you work on them.”
Tell us about your cohort.
“What aligns everyone is really an overarching goal of reaching a next step in your life, in your career, and in your personal aim. This connecting goal also really helps build a connective culture. Students in the programme are very strong and highly motivated. I haven’t met anyone who isn’t thriving for some idea and not working hard on personal goals. People come to EDHEC and apply for this programme because they want to take the extra step.”
Which advice would you give to future participants to online programmes at EDHEC?
“If you want to study in a vibrant environment together with students from all over the world, build intercultural skills, and learn at a world-renowned business school, go for it. But don’t forget that, and this might sound morose, it’s very challenging and sometimes requires extra motivation to get up and study whilst others around you are having fun or free time. Always remember that the outcome will be worth it, but there will be challenges to overcome, and at times when you and your cohort have to stick your heads together late at night to create a good product in order to achieve your goals. In the end, align yourself with your goals and always remember to be yourself.”
