“My name is Kevin Dakpo. I am from Benin Republic, and I’m currently enrolled in the MSc in Corporate Finance at EDHEC Online. I am currently working as an intermediate analyst in the financial sector in Toronto, Ontario.”

Why did you choose a career in Corporate Finance?

“I believe that finance is the language of money. So, in order for me to grow and understand the complexity to allow me to make better decisions, I needed to get into corporate finance.”

Which courses had a particular impact on your learning experience?

“Mergers and acquisitions were a key course for me, as well as valuation. But, other fun courses, such as project finance, allowed me to broaden my perspective and apply it directly to the work I was doing at the time.
The case studies that we did in class applied directly into my work, and that information stuck and landed a little bit better because I had the case studies from real-world examples at work. This actually made me grow exponentially and allowed me to show that there was already a return on my investment in my MSc in Corporate Finance.”

What are the benefits of studying online?

“The online environment was very flexible, which was key for me because I was working. And I also learned a lot more about myself through this online program because it forced me to be disciplined. And I noticed that all the people around me who were also taking the program followed that same discipline. When you’re all doing the same thing, you’re more encouraged to reach greater heights. The interaction with all of the cohorts was really great because sometimes some people had already taken a course, so they had insight. But most importantly, the interactions with the teacher were very instantaneous because of the platform that we use, which is Slack.”

As a graduate, how do you look back on your experience?

“In these 18 months, I have completely changed, I have learned a lot more, and most importantly, I have gained a community. The three words that I would use to describe this program are practical, flexible, and mindset. It really allows you to think critically.
