Meet Johannes Weber, based in Bayreuth, Germany. Johannes is currently working in Corporate Banking at UniCredit while pursuing the Online Master of Science in Corporate Finance program at EDHEC.
Driven by a strong ambition to join the banking industry, he chose EDHEC for its global reputation and its close ties to the finance sector, ensuring a program that closely aligns with industry expectations.
Why did you choose EDHEC for your degree, and what set it apart from other schools?
“I had the opportunity to study at other types of business schools and universities, but EDHEC really stood out because it’s such a well-known institution, even here in Germany. Everyone knows about its close alignment with the finance industry, and for me, it was always important to learn from the very best. This is where EDHEC truly shines. The whole onboarding process was also so much better organised.
It offers a great, flexible curriculum that you can follow from anywhere, no matter where you’re located. And it still provides a great study experience, giving you the opportunity to really network with fellow students and professors from all over the world.”
What motivated you to pursue an MSc in Corporate Finance?
“It was a pretty easy decision for me. Once I decided to join the banking industry, it was always clear that I needed—and also wanted—a master’s degree in this field. It was obvious that a master’s was something I truly needed to progress further in my career. And with such a strong institution as EDHEC, it was just a no-brainer.”
What made EDHEC’s Online MSc program the right fit for your career and lifestyle?
“The style of learning, the excellent self-learning experience, and the high-quality video lectures in the online modules—along with the live sessions—offer a fantastic, comprehensive approach to the study material.
You really don’t lose much, but you gain so much flexibility. This was especially important for me, as I’m a full-time working professional in the banking industry and knew I would need to relocate at some point during the program. It really allows you to study whenever and wherever you want.”
How has coaching and studying while working helped you reflect on your career goals?
“Coaching really helps you step out of your comfort zone and ask yourself: why are you doing this?
You need that professional counterpart who has already experienced similar situations and can offer valuable guidance that you can truly rely on.
For me, finance isn’t just the banking industry, it offers so many more fascinating job opportunities. Having someone by your side who works in the field and has a strong network really helps you take a closer look at your career goals.”
Which modules stood out to you during the program and why?
“One module that really stood out was Mergers and Acquisitions, which had been completely redesigned from the ground up. It gave me the opportunity to gain insights into a fascinating area of the industry, something that, from my position in the traditional corporate banking world, wouldn’t otherwise have been possible.”
