Meet Enrique Taulet Novo, originally from Valencia, a Transformation Manager at Allianz Partners and an alumnus of the Online Master of Science in Corporate Finance. He chose to pursue this MSc at EDHEC for its strong global reputation as one of Europe’s leading business schools.
Were you able to apply what you learned right away?
“Absolutely, I mean this is maybe too good to be true, but when I was finalising the master’s, I got a promotion, got a job offer, and immediately we started doing financial analysis and all the subjects that we that we took came in super handy because it was exactly the point that I made. Before, I was lacking this knowledge that everybody basically was assuming that I already had, so having gone through the EDHEC program before that was absolutely essential.”
Which course had the biggest impact on your career?
“In terms of courses, I can absolutely highlight one, which was the two courses that we took on M&A, so Mergers and Acquisitions Activities, that was really super valuable, super interesting, and it helps you understand why some companies, and how deep companies reach a certain price, because in the end it’s not exact science, it’s basically a race to who can estimate the best price.”
Beyond technical knowledge, what key skill did you develop during the program?
“It’s joint collaboration, so even though this is a master’s and it’s you who is signing up, most of the courses and most of the activities you are going to do in a group. So you have to learn and you will have to really improve if you’re not very good at it, like in my case, how to deal with certain type of personalities, how to get the best out of your teammates, and also to identify this person might be super good at this, not really good at it, so let’s focus on what we all can do in order to get the best outcome.”
Is it true that online learning feels isolating?
“It is absolutely a myth that you are lonely or alone when you do an online program, because in this program with EDHEC, 90% of the work was done through a collaborative approach, meaning that you had a joint presentation coming up, a joint paper or essay that you had to present, it was always looking at this as a team effort looking to simulate how the real world is going to be.”
What did you value most about the faculty?
“The faculty is people working in their expert fields, who are also teaching on the side, which is the best combination you can get. Because it’s moving away from the theoretical part of the studying into the practical, these excellent professors can tell you exactly how they apply this in the real world and what is the best way to learn something based on their experience.”
How was your experience with the online learning platform?
“The online environment, I would say, is one of the highlights of the program for sure, because I was not expecting to have such flexibility, but in the end, flexibility in the sense of it’s up to you when you want to tackle different exercises. Of course, there are some hard deadlines, but for example, if your job doesn’t allow you to join a live class, for example, all the content, you can watch it afterwards.”
What advice would you give to someone considering the Online MSc in Corporate Finance?
“I can only say that I’m so happy that I decided to make the decision to join EDHEC, and now I don’t know where I’ll be if I hadn’t taken that decision, so I can only recommend that you also do it.”
